a driver from 16 to 8 ohm by replacing the voice coil assembly? Silly question?
Thanks for any help!

Just curious as to your need to do this.

I'm thinking of buying a pair Altec 806A drivers that are 16 ohms and would like to run them with the rest of the system which is all 8 ohm.
Is this not necessary?
Brian
No, it's fine that way, you just have to adjust your XO, L-pad, Notch, Zobel, BSC and Shelving components accordingly.
Who's doing the crossovers?

The project I am attempting can be found by following the link below.
The changes I would like to make are to use an Onken box design utilizing one 416.
I'm hoping it all falls together because I don't have the know how to do anything about it if the mid and bass don't come together at the right point.

It'll be great but you really want to get help on the XO's. Don't waste your money on the drivers and box without some expert help with the guts. Others here maybe able to help or sometimes you have to hire someone in the know. It's worth it.

You can get new 8 ohm diaphagms from Great Plains for a reasonable cost. They also sell new drivers that would work.
